Weve just finished the steam bending course in which we all made a beautiful curved stool designed by part time tutor and steam bending expert David Haig. We were joined by two part time students Lew and Bob - Bob was ambitious enough to take on making two stools in the two weeks and all credit to him he walked out with both completed. The shot above shows the legs of the stools we made, at the stage of having the blanks bent and waiting in the forms.
We were fortunate enough to be able to chose our wood from a fallen oak on the school property - it came down in a storm four years ago and was quarter sawn and has been air drying for the last three years. The photo below dated 1909 shows the edge of the group of oak trees from which our one fell! There are some shots also of us picking through the pile and discussing what to look for.
