easy wood projects
Some recent holiday work making apple boxes helped me gather the funds to buy the plane which is based on the original Stanely No. 62. I had realised that the plane was almost an essential in my tool kit after being loaned one on a semi-permanent basis by an extremely generous fellow woodworker.
Although the Lie-Nielsen No. 62 is of the finest craftsmanship some tinkering was needed before I could take that first shaving. First I spent some time flatting the back of the blade (which is made from A-2 Cryogenically Treated Tool Steel) on a #1000 and then #6000 grit water stone. Then I honed the existing bevel until the blade was shaving the hairs on my forearm. (Warning: Do not try this at home).
