easy wood projects
I found out about Jeff Millers work from his books on woodworking, which are available from the Taunton Press. His collection of furniture is interesting from top to bottom, covering a nice range of chairs, tables and beds. The quality is impeccable. His designs are rooted in the traditional but are equally at home in the modern.
Of all his furniture, my favorite has to be the Arch Table, his signature piece. It seems to capture the confluence of the Industrial Revolution and the Arts and Crafts movement perfectly. That might just be a good definition for the city of Chicago, where Jeff makes his furniture. The table is graceful in its use of the arch and the way the curves support each other. The black resin border in the cherry is a nice touch. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of contemporary furniture Ive seen in a long time.
I also love his gorgeous chairs. They look incredibly comfortable.
And since Jeff wrote the book, literally, on beds, here is an example of one of his designs.
If you are lucky enough to be in the Chicago area, Jeff offers workshops in a range of traditional woodworking techniques. See information about his workshops here. See more of Jeff Millers work at www.furnituremaking.com.
